Karwar: Describing Tipu Sultan, as a visionary and brave soldier who had laid down his life fighting the British, Deputy Commissioner S S Nakul said he had encouraged the use of science and technology in the battle field.
Speaking after inaugurating Tipu Sultan Jayanti, Jointly organized by the District Administration, Zilla Panchayat and Kannada & Culture Department here, on Friday, he said, during Second Anglo-Mysore War, Tipu had used rocket technology and attacked the British forces.
He had learned many upgraded technologies thanks to his association with the French, he said.
“Tipu’s ideologies should be judged according to the times he lived and should not compare him with the current circumstances,” he added. In his specials lecture on Tipu Sultan, Vitthal Bhandari said, Tipu with his global consciousness expanded trade and businesses.
He chided those people who are trying re-write history and raising controversy against Tipu. This is condemnable, he said.
A handbook named ‘Mysuru Huli (Tiger of Mysuru) Tipu Sultan, published by Department of Information & Public Relations was released on the occasion.
Karnataka Fisheries Department Development Corporation President Rajendra Naik, Municipal Council President Ganapati V Naik, Karwar Urban Development Authority President Sandeep Talekar, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer L Chandrashekar Naik, SP Vinayak V Patil, In-charge Assistant Director of Kannada & Culture Department Ramkrishna Naik were present.
