Udupi: A security staff of toll plaza in Shiroor (NH 66) was killed after he was hit by a speeding car at the same toll plaza in the wee hours of Monday.

The deceased was identified as Raghavendra Mestha (44), who died on the way to the hospital. According Jagadish Poojary, who is also a security staff at the toll plaza and was on duty along with two other security staff at the time of incident, Raghavendra was deputed in the east side lanes (lane number 6) of the toll plaza.

A car coming from Bhatkal to Byndoor rammed Raghavendra at around 2.20 am on Monday. Raghavendra was grievously injured. The car driver Santhosh sustained injuries to his leg,  while another passenger in the car also sustained injuries on his head.

Local people threatened to hold a protest against the toll plaza’s manager for not arriving at the spot even though he was informed about the accident. Tight police security was provided at the toll plaza to avert any untoward incidents.
