Transporting Hawala Money: Cops nab 3, seize Rs 1 crore in Mangaluru

Mangaluru: Three persons on Friday were nabbed by the Kankanady police and seized Rs 1 crore for transporting Hawala money from Sangli in Maharashtra to Kannur in Kerala.

The arrested were identified as Thanaji (54) from Sangli, Prakash Sindhe (20) from Athani in Belagavi and Amul Mali (29) from Sangli. Police seized Rs 1 crore in cash, four mobile phones and one car from their possession.

Acting on a tip-off that the trio was transporting Hawala money, Kankanady Police Inspector Ravi Naik and his team intercepted the car at 5.30 am and arrested the trio.

Police are yet to ascertain information on the source of money. Sub Inspectors Pradeep, Janaki, constables Dayanand, Vinod, Nutan Kumar, Ravindranath Rai, Madan, Santhosh, Raghuveer, and Sandeep took part in the operation.
