Karwar: Two poachers were nabbed by ANSI forest officials on 2nd February, Friday for allegedly selling leopard nails in Joida taluk in the district.
The arrested accused have been identified as Yallappa Marappa Kari (70yrs) and Durgappa Rajappa Badagi (51yrs), both residents of Venkatapur in Dharwad taluk.
According to sources, the forest officials received a tip-off that the duo was selling leopard nails at the Sri Channabasaveshwara car festival in Ulavi of Joida taluk and acting upon it, they arrived at the spot and seized 19 leopard nails.
The duo was selling the nails at Rs. 1000 each at the festival on Friday. Both of the accused were produced in the court and have been remanded judicial custody.
Upon interrogation, it was revealed that the accused had purchased the nails from some other poachers and were only selling them for profit. The nails have been sent for testing to a laboratory to see whether they are original or fake.
A case has been registered.
