Hospet: A clash broke out during the Chhatrapati Shivaji Jayanti procession here between HJV (Hindu Jagarana Vedike) workers and a group of Muslim Youths on 19th February, Monday.

The clash erupted when a HJV worker was thrashed by a group of Muslim youths while trying to tie a flag to a pole. This led to HJV workers pelting stones at the nearby masjid, shattering its windows.

The situation worsened when both the group members started attacking each other. The clash aggravated and in order to take the situation under control, Assistant Commissioner Gargi Jain rushed to the spot along with a team of police personnel.

However, the HJV workers blocked the highway causing inconvenience for vehicles travelling from Raichur to Shimoga.

The police pleaded with the angry protesters to remain calm and call off their protest and at last, AC Gargi was able to quell the mob.
