Udupi: Judge Shantaveer Shivappa, the Principal District and Sessions Judge in Udupi, urged young individuals to make thoughtful choices when exercising their voting rights, emphasizing the role of responsible voting in shaping a stable and vibrant society. He shared this advice during his address at the National Voters’ Day event in Udupi on Thursday.

The judge underscored the significance of electing honest leaders based on their leadership capabilities rather than considering factors like caste or religion. He specifically cautioned young voters against succumbing to bribes and encouraged them to prioritize meritocracy in their selection of representatives.

During the event, Udupi Deputy Commissioner Vidyakumari highlighted the foundational role of elections in a democracy. She mentioned that, through the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) initiative, the administration conducts various activities to raise awareness among individuals who abstain from voting. Competitions are organized at the school and college levels as part of these efforts.

Udupi Superintendent of Police Dr Arun K advised young voters to engage in thoughtful decision-making when casting their votes, emphasizing the crucial role every voter plays in enhancing democracy. The event commenced with a procession (jatha) from the service bus stop to the Town Hall before the official inauguration.
