Udupi: Four youth were killed on the spot and five others were injured when the truck in which they were travelling toppled and plunged into a gorge at fifth curve (from Someshwara side) in Agumbe Ghat under Hebri police station limits on Friday.
The deceased were identified as truck driver Yajnesh (24), Manjunath (21), Mani (21) and Srijith (21) all from Karkala. The five injured people were shifted to Karkala government hospital and all them were declared out of danger, sources in Hebri police station said.
The truck was returning from Shivamogga. The exact cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained. Police suspect that the truck was descending at a great speed. "Once the vehicle is lifted from the gorge, the vehicle's break failure aspect will also be looked into," sources added.
The bodies of youth were shifted to government mortuary in Hebri. A case was registered in Hebri police station.
