Udupi: Deputy Commissioner Kurma Rao said that the lives of renowned leaders Mahatma Gandhiji and Lal Bahadur Shastri are role models for everyone, since they are the epitome of simplicity.
After participating in the Mahatma Gandhiji and Lal Bahadur Shastri birth anniversary celebrations at Bhujanga Park in Ajjarakad, the DC said the ‘Clean India’ campaign, which runs from Oct 1 to 31, is focused on collecting waste materials from every household to be processed so that the district can be declared ‘plastic-free’.
MLA K Raghupathy Bhat said Mahatma Gandhi envisioned a “Clean India” and Indians have been working to make that vision a reality in the recent decade. The BJP-led union government will contribute financially for the cause of removing mountains of garbage across the country under the ‘Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban’ programme. “In Udupi, we will have to make plans to clean Karval’s dumping yard. River Indrani will also be cleansed with the union government funds,” he added.
