Udupi: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari had sanctioned Rs 50 crore for two overpass projects at Santhekatte and Ambalapady on NH 66 in Udupi district.

The two junctions had been identified as an accident-prone zone by the Traffic Police department. Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Shobha Karandlaje, who also represents Udupi-Chikmagalore parliamentary constituency, recollected meeting Minister Nitin Gadkari and apprising him on the need for the two-vehicular overpass.

"The tenders had been floated for the projects and the work will begin shortly,'' she added.
