Uttara Kannada Lok Sabha constituency seat: 19 Candidates File 36 Sets of Nomination Papers

Karwar: The Uttara Kannada Lok Sabha constituency saw a flurry of activity as 19 candidates collectively submitted 36 sets of nomination papers.

Since April 12, the nomination process has witnessed a steady stream, averaging three submissions daily. The eclectic mix of candidates includes 13 independents, alongside representatives from national and regional parties. Notably, Maharashtra Ekikaran Samithi (MES) and Shiv Sena have extended their support to certain independent candidates.

Comparatively, this election cycle appears more competitive. In the previous Lok Sabha polls, 17 candidates entered the race, with two failing scrutiny. However, this time promises a broader spectrum of contenders. The true count will emerge after the scrutiny on April 20 and the subsequent withdrawal deadline on April 22.

The looming question arises concerning the ballot logistics. With each unit accommodating a maximum of 15 candidates plus NOTA, a surplus of nominations could necessitate additional ballot units for smooth voting.

Here's a roster of the aspirants vying for the Uttara Kannada seat: Anjali Nimbalkar (Congress), Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri (BJP), Nagaraj Shet (Rashtriya Jana Sambhavana Paksha), Vinayak Naik (KRS), Sunil Pawar (Uttam Prajakiya Party), Ganapati Hegde (SUCI(C)), Krishnaji Patil, Niranjan Sardesai, Krishna Balegar, Rupa Naik, Rajshekhar Hindalagi, Umesh Daivagnya, Avinash Patil, Prakash Pinto, Chidananda Harijan, Nagaraj Shirali, Pramoda Madgaonkar, Aravind Gowda, and Sujay Gokarna, all of whom have submitted their nomination papers.
