Karwar: Rains that lashed Uttara Kannada district caused huge loss to paddy crop grown in about 795-hectare area.
The paddy growers are struggling to save their crop which is getting damaged due to rains. Many farmers have started harvesting the paddy crop. However, rains caused damage to the crop that has been stocked in the fields for harvesting. As a result, the farmers are worried over saving the crop.
This time, the district received excessive rains. The district should have received 16.4 cm rains by this time. However, it received 24.1 cm rains 46% more than expected. Haliyal and Siddapur received the highest rainfall, informed Agriculture Department Joint Director Honnappa Gowda.
The farmers had grown the crop spending thousands of rupees. They are in agony due to the rains.
