Udupi: The Covid-19 pandemic can be contained only with Covid vaccination. Hence, door-to-door visits should be started and vaccines should be given to those, who have not been vaccinated, Deputy Commissioner and Vaccine Task Force Co-ordination Chairman M Kurma Rao said on Wednesday.

Rao, presiding over the Task Force meeting in DC hall, said there were 2,95,375 households in the district. Asha workers, Anganwadi volunteers and health department staff should visit every household and collect information about members showing vaccine hesitancy. The volunteers should give vaccine only after creating awareness about the vaccination, he stressed.

The vaccination drive will be conducted all over the district from November 16 to 30. He urged members of public and community leaders to support district administration’s vaccination drive. Officials should ensure that migratory labourers and nomads should be vaccinated. The details of those being vaccinated, including mobile numbers, should be mentioned in prescribed forms.

Udupi Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr Naveen Bhat said pregnant women and people suffering from diseases in villages were indifferent to vaccination. Thus it is important to vaccinate after convincing them, he added. He added that students should be encouraged to convince their family members on the need to get vaccinated.

Schools with students, whose parents had received bot vaccine doses, will be recognised and rewarded, he promised. Udupi Additional Deputy Commissioner Sadashiva Prabhu, District and Family Health Welfare Officer Dr Nagabhushana Udupa, Vaccination Nodal Officer Dr Rama among others were present in the meeting.

Survey of GPs

Rao said health workers should conduct a survey of minimum seven GPs everyday. With the help of voters’ list, local organisations and youth mandalis, the details of those yet to get vaccine should be compiled.
