'WhatsApp' groups to call the attention of voters in Sirsi

Sirsi: In view of upcoming assembly elections, which have been scheduled to be held on May 12, all the political parties have seen busy in creating their own strategies to reach the voters.

In this regard, the BJP has planned to reach as many as 30,000 voters from Sirsi-Siddapur Assembly Constituency from its office itself. Yes! the party has collected the mobile numbers of all the voters and planning to grab the attention of them, deploying call centre youths.

One-and-half-years ago, BJP had conducted a 'missed call' campaign across the State, to provide primary membership of the party to the interested. That campaign was almost successful in Karnataka too. During the campaign, BJP party office bearers has collected the postal address of newly joined members and now, it has prepared a list of people, based on their membership in respective assembly constituencies following the pin number.

The list sent by part State unit has been separated in terms of constituencies. Some of the party members had involved themselves in this work and with the assembly elections coming nearer, they have sent the list of missed call members contact numbers to the taluk offices in the respective assembly constituencies.

30,000 members

A total of 30,000 mobile numbers have been collected, which includes missed call members, beneficiaries of Ujjawal, Jan Dhan, Fasal Bima and other schemes of Central government. The WhatsApp group members list has crossed 8,000.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, BJP district unit general secretary R D Hegde said, of the 30,000 members, each will be contacted personally and information regarding the achievement of Central government and future plan of BJP will be given to them. The call centre youths will be deployed for this work and the process of collecting mobile numbers is still going on, he added.

More than 100 WhatsApp groups

BJP rural unit general secretary Raghupathi Bhat said, more than 100 WhatsApp groups have been created by the Shakti Kendra's in 22 gram panchayats in Sirsi taluk, 31 wards, Shakti Kendras in under city limits, Siddapur gram panchayat Shakti Kendras, and three Shakti Kendras in the town, collectively comes under the limits of Sirsi-Siddapur Assembly Constituency.

The groups have also been created in the far off villages like Vanalli and Devanalli. In each group, there are 50 to 150 members including presidents of Shkati Kendras, secretary, office bearers, party members and also the public.

There are many people who don't use smart phones. For them, the party members will reach information. The person belonging to the respective Shakti Kendra will work as an admin for that group.

The WhatsApp groups aims to reach the huge number of people within short time, to provide information about the developmental works taken up by the Central government and future plans of party's State unit, he added.
