Widespread rain in coastal parts of Uttara Kannada; 59 people sheltered in 2 care centers, says DC Lakshmi Priya

Karwar: Uttara Kannada Deputy Commissioner Lakshmi Priya reported that widespread rain affected the coastal part of the district on Sunday. A total of 59 people have taken shelter in two care centers in Honnavar taluk, where they have been provided with all necessary basic amenities.

 

The Tahsildars of various taluks affected by heavy rains in the district have been instructed to open more care centers if necessary for the public.

All necessary arrangements for meals and overnight stays have been made, along with basic amenities for those sheltered in the care centers. Health check-ups by a team of doctors and necessary medication facilities are also being provided, she informed.

Due to the widespread rainfall in the coastal part of the district, a holiday has been declared for all schools and pre-degree colleges in Bhatkal, Honnavar, Kumta, Ankola, and Karwar taluks on July 8.

In the last 24 hours, three houses were severely damaged and four houses were partially damaged in the district. Thirteen families from the affected areas of Gunda, Chittihitla, and Devadalli under Manki town panchayat of Honnavar taluk have been shifted to care centers by the NDRF team.

She stated that no loss of human life has been reported due to the rain in the district.

All officials have been instructed to take maximum precautionary measures to prevent the loss of livestock as well.
