Mangaluru: Balakrishna (25) was declared guilty of sexually assaulting a minor in Vittal police station limits and sentenced to undergo seven years of imprisonment by the Additional Sessions Court (Pocso court).

On July 25, 2019, Balakrishna had accosted the minor girl who was on her way to school. Balakrishna kidnapped her and sexually assaulted her at his relatives’ house. The court also slapped a fine of Rs 75,000 on Balakrishna. If he failed to pay the fine, he will have to undergo additional three months of rigorous imprisonment and pay a fine of Rs 10,000. Of the total fine, the court directed that Rs 50,000 should be paid to the rape survivor. The court also directed the authorities to pay a compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the survivor.
