Karwar: Uttara Kannada Deputy Commissioner (DC) K. Lakshmi Priya has instructed officials from the Department of Women and Child Development to provide protection, counseling, and skill training to women affected by domestic violence, enabling them to lead self-reliant lives.
She was presiding over the quarterly meeting on the progress of the Mission Shakti and other schemes of the Women and Child Development Department at the DC office in Karwar on Friday.
A total of 261 domestic violence cases have been registered in the district this financial year, out of which 213 have been resolved. The affected women should be provided with the necessary training if they wish to acquire skills for employment. This will help them become self-reliant and support their families.
She also directed officials to ensure protection, temporary shelter, legal aid, and guidance for these women through counseling centers. Additionally, she instructed the authorities to establish a new counseling center in Haliyal soon.
The DC emphasized that grievances raised in children's village meetings should be regularly followed up. Child welfare committee meetings must be held in every taluk, and special attention should be given to children who have dropped out of school to re-enroll them. Awareness programs on POCSO Act, Child Marriage Prohibition, and Child Helpline 1098 should be conducted in schools, colleges, and Anganwadi centers.
Under the Matru Vandana scheme, financial assistance should be provided to all eligible pregnant women. Any technical glitches in the system should be reported to NIC, and Aadhaar-related issues should be resolved with the help of district administrators.
The Gruha Lakshmi scheme in the district has achieved 98.02% progress. The remaining 1,652 eligible households should be included in the scheme by resolving issues related to Aadhaar and ration card linkage. Officials were instructed to visit bedridden patients’ houses to complete the registration process and achieve 100% implementation soon.
The DC also directed officials to identify land in all taluks to construct permanent Anganwadi buildings, as many are currently functioning in rented premises. In urban areas, if CA sites are available, they will be allocated for Anganwadi construction.
She stressed the need for coordination between the police, health, and women & child development departments for the effective implementation of women and child protection measures.
Senior Civil Judge and District Legal Services Authority Secretary Divyashree, Women and Child Development Deputy Director Virupaksha Gowda Patil, officers from various departments, and child development officers from all taluks attended the meeting.
