Mangaluru:  Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar emphasized the need for collective responsibility in protecting the country during his speech at the inauguration of the 30th Annual General Conference of the Karnataka State Sunni Yuvajana Sangh (SYS) at Shah Garden in suburban Adyar Kannur on Wednesday.

Shivakumar highlighted that some political parties engage in exploiting people's sentiments for their gain, while his focus remains on empowering positive change in the lives of common citizens. He called upon all secular individuals to unite in safeguarding the nation against forces that seek to divide it through emotional manipulation.

During his speech, Shivakumar acknowledged the universal principles shared by various religions, emphasizing the commonality in devotion, karma, and the essence of loyalty. He urged people to recognize that natural elements such as wind, sun, moon, and water transcend caste or religion, emphasizing the importance of humanity as the core of life.

Addressing the youth as the country's asset, Shivakumar emphasized the collective responsibility to protect culture and religion. He discouraged interference in religious matters, customs, and thoughts, expressing concern about the actions of the BJP government against Muslims in the state. He assured that the Congress government, led by Siddaramaiah, would work towards providing protection and solving such issues.

Shivakumar asserted the commitment to ensuring justice for all sections of society. He also commended Sunni organizations for their positive contributions, recognizing their alignment with the country's constitution. The Grand Mufti of India, Sultanul Ulama AP, emphasized the importance of preserving the constitution, stating that no one has the authority to change it.

Udupi District Union Qazi Zainul Ulama Mani Ustad presided over the conference, with notable figures such as State Assembly Speaker U.T. Khader, State Haj Minister Rahim Khan, and other leaders from diverse backgrounds present at the event.
