15,272 students to appear for II PU examination in Udupi district

Udupi: As many as 15,272 students are eligible to appear for the second year pre-university examination in Udupi district. The examination will be from April 22 to May 18 from 10.15 a.m. to 1.30 p.m., according to Udupi Deputy Commissioner M. Kurma Rao.

Of the total 15,272 students who are scheduled to appear for the examination in the district, 4,792 are in the Science stream, 7,850 from Commerce, and 1,524 from Arts. Of the total students, 14,597 are freshers and the remaining 675 are repeaters. There are 326 private candidates In all, 28 examination centers have been set up across the district, Mr. Rao said.

The Deputy Commissioner said that he has instructed the officials concerned to make sure that the examination is held without compromising on the transparency and fairness. Already the mobile surveillance squads have been formed to make sure that malpractices do not take place during the examination, he said in a statement. “The district administration is geared up to conduct examination in a smooth manner,” he said.

The Deputy Commissioner has imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144 (1) of CrPC in areas around all examination centres from April 22 to May 18. Section 144 (1) will be clamped within a 200-metre radius of all the examination centres. Owners of the photocopy shops located near the examination centres will be also asked to close their shops for a stipulated time on all days when the examination will take place to avoid any malpractices.

Meanwhile, Aliya Assadi, II PU student of Women’s Government Pre University College, Udupi, who had moved the Karnataka High Court seeking a direction to the college to allow wearing hijab inside the classroom, tweeted on Wednesday requesting Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai to consider her plea for writing the examination with hijab.

‘‘2nd PU exams are going to start from 22nd of this month. Hon’ble CM @BSBommai you still have a chance to stop our future from getting ruined. You can make a decision to allow us to write exams wearing hijab. Please consider this.We are the future of this country. #HijabisOurRight,” she tweeted.
