Bhatkal resident externed from Uttara Kannada for six months

Bhatkal: A 46-year-old resident of Bhatkal has been externed from Uttara Kannada district for six months under an order issued by the district administration, police said on Saturday.

The order was passed against Hawwa Ismail following a proposal submitted by the Bhatkal Town Police Station.

According to police, the externment proceedings were initiated on the grounds that Ismail's alleged activities could adversely affect public order, public safety and communal harmony in the area.

Police records show that seven cases relating to alleged violations of the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act were registered against him at Bhatkal Town Police Station between 2020 and 2025. Of these, two cases resulted in conviction, while five others are pending before the court.

After examining the police proposal and hearing both the prosecution and the respondent, the Superintendent of Police, acting as the Special Executive Magistrate, ordered Ismail's externment from Uttara Kannada district.

Under the order, he has been directed to remain within the jurisdiction of the Raichur Rural Police Station and barred from entering Uttara Kannada district for a period of six months.

Police said officers from the Bhatkal Town Police Station subsequently escorted Ismail to Raichur and produced him before the Raichur Rural Police authorities in compliance with the order.
