2 fall prey to H1N1 in Uttara Kannada dist

Karwar: “Two people have died of H1N1 in Uttara Kannada district. While one victim hailed from Yellapur, the other one was from Haliyal. They died failing to respond to the treatment”, informed District Health & Family Welfare Officer G N Ashok Kumar.

He said that 25 cases of suspected H1N1 had been identified in the district. Of them, two patients from Mundgod and two from Haliyal are suffering from H1N1. He explained that the Health & Family Welfare Department had already taken measures to control H1N1 in the district. Facility to collect throat swab of suspected patients has been made in district and taluk hospitals. Tamiflu tablets have been stocked in sufficient quantity in primary health care centres, taluk health centres and district hospitals. Special wards had been earmarked in hospitals for suspected H1N1 patients.

He said that the main symptoms of H1N1 was cough, yellow sputum, cold, throat infection, intense joint pain, problem in respiration.  Dr Ashok Kumar also informed that of the 49 suspected cases of rat fever, 34 were confirmed and 76 people suffered from dengue.

District Surveillance Officer Vinod Bhute, District National Vector-borne Disease Control Officer Ramesh Rao were also present at the press meet.
