Karwar: Around six persons have reportedly lost their lives after a boat in which they were moving capsized here at Arabian sea in Karwar on Monday afternoon. Sources said that the death toll may increase as the boat was carrying nearly 25 people, among which only 4 persons have been rescued until now and the efforts are being continued to rescue others.
It is informed that a group of 25 people had been to Korumgudda from Karwar to take part in the fair festival. On their return, a heavy tide in the sea toppled their boat, which capsized and gave a major turn to the incident.
Reports further informed that the ones who knew swimming tried to save themselves by approaching the boat, while the efforts to rescue others were made by the occupants of another boat which was arriving from behind.
The team of coastal security police along with fishermen rushed to the spot and have launched a rescue operation.
As the information was alerted, Uttar Kannada DC SS Nakul and SP Vinayak Patil also reached the spot.
