BHATKAL: A 62-year-old man was killed after a car hit him while he was standing by the roadside at Jali Cross on National Highway 66 in Bhatkal on Thursday morning.
The deceased was identified as Parmeshwar Rama Devadiga, a resident of Kumta, who was staying with his close relatives at Mundalli in Bhatkal.
According to the complaint registered with the police, Parmeshwar was talking to a relative at around 6.40 am when a car travelling from Shirur towards Honnavar hit him.
Parameshwar sustained serious injuries and was immediately shifted to a nearby private hospital, where he died while undergoing treatment at around 8.40 am.
It was learnt that Parameshwar had joined a private hospital in Bhatkal as a watchman only two days before the accident.
A case has been registered at the Bhatkal Town Police Station and further investigation is underway.
