Karwar: The 70th Republic Day celebration marked with great fervour here at Police Parade ground in Karwar on Saturday. District incharge Minister RV Deshpande hoisted the national flag on the occasion.
Contingents of the district police, home guards, NCC, Navy and 17 schools presented an attractive march past. In the cultural programmes held later, 445 students of St Micheal Convent drew the attention of the people by presenting dance at once. Students of Shivaji Girls High School in Baad and Nirmala Rani School in Sunkeri were also appreciated for their dance and dance drama.
On the occasion, Sirsi City Municipal Council, Haliyal Town Municipal Council and Mundgod Town Panchayat bagged the first three prizes respectively for effectively implementing the system of segregating dry and wet solid waste at source.
Deputy Commissioner S S Nakul, SP Vinayak Patil, zilla panchayat chief executive officer M Roshan, MLA Roopali Naik, zilla panchayat president Jayashri Moger, vice-president Santosh Renake, taluk panchayat president Prameela Naik and others were present.
