Mangaluru: Police have arrested woman who was trying to smuggle marijuana into the district prison by hiding it in her clothes in the city.
The accused has been identified as Fathima,(21) who was trying to smuggle marijuana into the prison on the pretext of meeting Asif, an under trial prisoner.
However, she was detained by the personnel of central industrial security force on Thursday. It is learnt that during checking, security personnel found 47 grams of marijuana worth Rs 2,000 in her possession.
She was later handed over to jurisdictional Barke police station for further investigation and was produced before a local court which remanded her to judicial custody.
Police sources said that the woman’s husband, Abdur Raheem, a resident of Kasba Bengre of Mangaluru, had been arrested on charge of marijuana trafficking in the past and recently was released from the jail.
