Bhatkal: The series of road accidents on the Bhatkal National Highway-66 shows no sign of stopping. In yet another mishap, a young man lost his life while three others sustained injuries.
The accident occurred on Friday night on the Bhatkal–Bengre stretch of NH-66 under the jurisdiction of the Murdeshwar Police Station, when two motorcycles collided with each other.

According to sources, Nagaraj Naik (30), a resident of Bengre, who was critically injured in the accident, was initially shifted to the Bhatkal Government Hospital and later referred to Manipal for advanced treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday.
Sources said that Sachin Muruga was riding his motorcycle from Bhatkal towards Murdeshwar when, near the Mavinkatta–Kokti Cross in Bengre, his bike collided with another motorcycle ridden by Nagaraj. In the accident, Manjunath Masti Naik (26), who was travelling as a pillion rider on Nagaraj’s bike, sustained injuries to his mouth, hands and legs. Meanwhile, Sachin and Madan, who were riding the other motorcycle, also suffered injuries.
A case has been registered at the Murdeshwar Police Station and further investigation is underway.
It may be noted that frequent accidents are being reported near crossings on the Bhatkal National Highway. It is believed that when vehicles moving at high speed on the highway come into contact with vehicles suddenly entering from cross roads, the risk of serious accidents increases.
