Urban areas get 4 months to apply under Akrama-Sakrama

BENGALURU: The state government has decided to give four months’ time for people in urban areas to apply for regularisation of buildings under the Akrama-Sakrama scheme. At a meeting held on Friday, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that no extensions will be allowed after the four months, beginning January 1. As specified earlier, the applicants should have constructed the residential or commercial buildings or purchased the sites before October 19, 2013.

Earlier this month, the High Court gave the go-ahead to the government to carry on with the scheme. Under the scheme, deviations from the approved plan of up to 50 per cent for residential buildings and 25 per cent for commercial buildings can be regularised by payment of the fee.

The CM has also ruled out any amendments to the scheme, which does not consider buildings that have come up on government land, park land and playgrounds.
Earlier, Siddaramaiah, who returned after a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday, told reporters that the state government was not waiting for funds from the Centre to come but had already given `862 crore towards drought relief works. He said that `400 crore had been released towards providing drinking water and fodder for cattle.

“A meeting will be held on January 4, chaired by Union Home minister, and we have been assured by the prime minister that a decision will be taken soon after this,” he said.
