Around 4 ton of waste collected at Aligadda beach in Karwar

Karwar: A cleanliness drive was held at Aligadda beach on Saturday as part of International Coastal Cleanliness Day.

During the drive, four ton of waste including waste plastic bottles, plastic cups, pieces of fishing nets used by fishermen, was collected by the volunteers.

Over 250 participate:

More than 250 people including students from various schools participated in the drive.

The drive was organised by Karnatak University PG Centre Marine Biology Department, National Centre for Coastal Research, Indian Coast Guard, Coastal Security Police, Aditya Birla Grasim Industries and Karnataka State Pollution Control Board.

PG Centre Head G L Rathod explained the adverse effects of plastic on the environment, especially on marine life and the need to check plastic waste from taking a toll on the planet earth .

Indian Coastal Guard Commanding Officer A S Nanda, Pollution Control Board Environment Officer Vijaya Hegde, CMC Commissioner S Yogeeshwar, Sourabh Gabel, Shivakumar Haragi and others were present on the occasion.
