Calicut: The importance of nutrition for a child cannot be overemphasized. Proper nutrition helps children to grow well and promotes a positive learning outcome. As part of the Annual State Conference of Nutrition Chapter of IAP Kerala - NUTRICON 2016, Aster MIMS will be conducting a public awareness programme on “Nutrition in Children” at 2 pm on Saturday, September 3rd in Association with Lions Club International District 613, Calicut. The venue for the seminar will be the Aster MIMS auditorium. The seminar will be open to students, parents and teachers.
Dr. Sudha Krishnaunni, Senior Consultant and Head of the Department of Paediatrics will be addressing the parents on the topic of the Importance of Nutrition in Adolescents. Dr. Krishnaunni said, ‘Childhood is a critical time for the mental, emotional and physical growth of a child. The seminar is aimed at educating parents on the right approach to proper nutrition in children which is required to keep the organs and tissues healthy and functioning well. The seminar will inform and guide participants on the proper methods to follow to ensure good nutrition for their children.’
The other speakers at the Child Nutrition seminar will be Dr. Vijayan A. P., Senior Consultant in Paediatrics who will speak on nutrition for the first 1000 days after birth, and Mrs. Sherin Thomas who will give tips to the parents on a practical approach to nutritious food.
On the occasion, a free Nutrition Assessment consultation has also been arranged for the participants. The Nutrition Assessment will take into account the current and past medical history, family medical history, current medications and supplements if any, food allergies and dietary requirements, physical activity level and usual intake of food. Guidance will be given on the proper diet to be followed.
