Bantwal: A five and a half year-old girl was killed and two other children sustained injuries after a massive tree fell on a moving school bus near Kalleti Daivasthana on Mani-Barimaru road in Bantwal taluk on Wednesday.

According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Chiranvi, a student of Sri Rama School, Kalladka. Two other children who sustained injuries are undergoing treatment in hospital. There were 20 children on the bus.

Chiranvi, who was critically injured in the accident, was immediately rushed from the scene in an autorickshaw by a local woman. However, she succumbed to her injuries while being taken to the hospital in Puttur. Following the incident, the Bantwal Tahsildar visited the hospital. A case has been registered at Bantwal rural station.
