Belagavi: A dead body of a 22-year-old woman was traced by the Kakati police following the intimation by Ratnagiri police on 6th September Wednesday.
The body was found stuffed in a suitcase which was dumped under a bridge besides a National Highway near Rani Channamma University, in the outskirts of Belagavi.
The identity of the deceased is yet to be confirmed. However it is suspected to be Ankita, native of Nagpur, who was missing from Thane in Maharashtra. Ankita’s parents have been informed by the police and they are on the way to Belagavi in order to identify the body.
According to the sources, Ankita had recently joined a private call centre at Thane in Maharashtra. It is gathered that she had reportedly fallen in love with one of her friends in Nagpur named Amit. Ankita was invited to a party at Ambarnath by him on Sunday.
However, when she arrived at the party, she was allegedly raped and murdered by Amit accompanied by another friend. The duo stuffed her dead body into a suitcase, and called another one of their friends asking him to drive them to Belagavi on his four wheeler stating that they have some work there.
Although they did not inform him about the murder, Girish got suspicious when they threw one of the two bags under a bridge. He immediately informed the police who then arrested the duo while passing through Ratnagiri on Tuesday.
The accused duo admitted to the crime during the police inquiry. They also admitted that Girish was unaware of the crime. Based on the information, Ratnagiri police informed Kakati police about the dead body, which was then recovered.
However, the police are waiting for the arrival of Ankita’s parents in order to identify the dead body, only after which the case will be confirmed.
