Bhatkal: Continues rains for past few days had affected the normal life of people across the taluk. The water clogged at various places put the masses into difficulty by creating havoc with traffic flow. On the other hand, the rice fields are ready for harvest and the farmers who are making preparations for cutting the crops are into fear of crop damage.
The rainfall across the coastal area has put the farmers into difficulty. The rice crops standing across thousands of acres of land are facing threat of destruction. The crops at various places have fallen of the shoots getting mixed into muddy puddles. The farmers of the area are completely dependent on these harvests for their livelihood. The farmers are concerned about the crops getting washed out with rains. This has put them into confusion of whether cutting the crops or leaving them in fields till the cutting dates. If the rainfall continues there is a heavy chance of crops falling off the plants, it is told.
It should be noted that the rice is the main crop cultivated in Bhatkal. The cloudy weather is still persisting in the area which has kept the farmers keep their fingers crossed.
