Bhatkal: An 82-year-old man died after two scooters collided near Navayath Colony on National Highway 66 in Bhatkal on Sunday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Nisar Ali Data. According to eyewitnesses, he was riding a scooter from his residence near Muzammil Masjid towards Usmania Masjid to offer Fajr prayers when the accident occurred.
The incident reportedly took place when Nisar Ali was attempting to cross the highway, during which another scooter travelling along the road collided with his vehicle.
The impact threw him off the scooter, causing him to fall onto the road and sustain a severe head injury. He was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Eyewitnesses said there are no streetlights on this stretch of the National Highway, and accidents have occurred there frequently due to poor visibility.
Nisar Ali Data was the father-in-law of Bhatkal-based social worker S.M. Amjad. He is survived by a son and a daughter.
