Bhatkal: The election for the president and vice president for the newly formed Jali patan panchayat of Bhatkal taluk will be held on 29th of September.
Altogether there are 20 members in the Jali patan panchayat, of which 12 members belong to the Bhatkal's socio-political organization Majlis-e-islah-o-Tanzeem. Remaining five belong to Congress, three to BJP and a sole independent candidate. According to recieved information, the Tanzeem will have a major role in the upcoming panchayat elections. The post of president is reserved for the Backward A cetegory, for which Imran Lanka and Abdurrahim are said to be prominent contestants. There is a chance of Tanzeem announcing its candidate for the president post after the meeting which is to be held on 28th of September. Interestingly, it is assumed that the three of the five Congress candidates would also support the Tanzeem backed candidate. So the public is of the opinion that the tanzeem candidate has a major chance of winning the election for post of president. The post of vice president is reserved for general woman.
The Jali Patan panchayat which is adjacent to the Bhatkal town has a total of around 4000 houses and a population of 19000. The people of this area are facing a major problem of waste disposal. The people are of the opinion that the winning candidate should work towards the welfare of public without being under pressure and taking sides of any particular person or community.
