Bhatkal: The presidential elections of the Jali Pattan Panchayat will be held on Thrusday, 29th of September at the Jali panchayat office. The socio-political organization of Bhatkal, Majlis-Islah-o-Tanzeem has nominated Imran Lanka and Shameem Banu as its candidates for the post of president and vice president respectively.
In a meeting which was held with the administrative board of Tanzeem, the members of political panel and Jali pattan panchayat, Imran Lanka was nominated as the tanzeem candidate for presidential post unopposed. Shameem Banu, the ex-president of Jali panchayat, was also nominated unopposed for the post of vice president.
It is said that along with Imran Lanka the name of former zilla panchayat member Abdur Rahim was also suggested for the presidential post, but was not favored by many members. Also, Abdur Rahim was absent in the meeting, based on which Imran Lanka was nominated unopposed. Shameen Banu was the also the only candidate in suggestion for the post of vice president.
Adressing the meeting, the convener of political panel, Mr. Abdur Raqeeb MJ put forward the problems faced by the people of Jali panchayat. He said that the main concerns for the people of this area were the improper waste disposal, drainage system and encroached land issues. He requested the Jali Panchayat members along with the newly elected candidates to give extra priority to these problems. He also suggested the members to work with unity and approach tanzeem and political panel for suggestions regarding any problem faced by them.
The meeting was presided over by the vice president of tanzeem, Mr. Inayatullah Shabandari. The tanzeem meeting hall was packed on the occasion.
It should be noted that, altogether there are 20 members in the Jali pattan panchayat, of which 12 members belong to Tanzeem, five belong to Congress, three to BJP and a sole independent candidate. So the public is of the opinion that the tanzeem candidate has a major chance of winning the election for post of president and vice president as well.
The Jali Patan panchayat which is adjacent to the Bhatkal town has a total of around 4000 houses and a population of 19000.
