Mumbai: A man was killed and three others critically injured when a bus carrying doctors to a medical conference met with an accident along the Kedgaon bypass at Ahmednagar in the early hours of Saturday,1st September.
The deceased was identified as Altaf Matta (38), the bus driver.
The bus was carrying 40 cancer specialists to a conference in Aurangabad that was later cancelled. Police said the doctors – 12 women and 28 men – were employed with the Tata Cancer Center and Fortis Hospital in Mumbai.
Although it was confirmed that the bus met with a head-on collision with a container truck around 4 am, the circumstances that led to the accident are still unclear.
Last heard, a complaint was being registered at the Kotwali police station. Further information will be made available once it is filed.
The public relations officer of the Tata Cancer Center said in a video statement that one of the three seriously injured doctors is in the intensive care unit. Around 20 others suffered minor injuries.
The injured were shifted to various hospitals in the area, including the Civil Hospital.
