Bhatkal: The bandh call in Karnataka was ineffective in Bhatkal as the shops and other business establishments were open and the life was normal. But certain pro-kannada organizations staged protests and proceeded to submit a memorandum to Assistant Commissioner. Since, the Assistant Commissioner was not present, it provoked the protestors. The protest continued further and resulted in blocking of NH 66 for some time.
Police team led by ASP Dr. Anup Kumar Shetty, CPI Suresh Nayak and CPI Gopal Nayak rushed to the spot and held a discussion with the leaders of organisation and handled the situation. Police had to arrest the protestors, who were released after sometime. Later, a memorandum was submitted to Bhatkal ASP Anup Kumar Shetty, addressed to Uttara Kannada Deputy Commissioner.
President of Bhuvaneshwari Kannada Sangha Ramesh Naik with members Pandurang Naik, Shridhar Naik, Krishna Naik, Sudhakar Naik, Annappa Naik, Karnataka rakshana vedike president Ishwar Naik Bailur and members including Anand Devadiga, Kishore Shet, Raju Naik, Maruti Pauskar and many others were present.
