Bhatkal: An elderly woman lost her life in a tragic road accident near Shamsuddin Circle in Bhatkal on Monday evening. The victim has been identified as 68-year-old Lakshmi Jatta Naik, a resident of Shirali Chitrapur.

The accident occurred at around 6:45 PM when a private bus heading from Bhatkal to Bengaluru attempted a U-turn at Shamsuddin Circle. During the maneuver, the bus hit the woman who was walking nearby. She was rushed to the Bhatkal Government Hospital in critical condition but was pronounced dead shortly after.

According to sources, the woman had been returning home after consulting a lawyer in Bhatkal regarding a land dispute when the unfortunate incident occurred. The news of the accident drew a large crowd to the spot, causing a temporary disruption in traffic.

The police arrived at the scene, restored order, and registered a case. PSI Naveen of Bhatkal Town Police Station is investigating the incident.
