Bhatkal: A Konkan Railway pointsman displayed remarkable courage and presence of mind by rescuing a passenger who attempted to alight from a moving train at Murdeshwar Railway Station in Bhatkal taluk on Sunday morning.
The incident occurred when 22-year-old Mohammed Ghafoor, who was travelling on a train from Kochuveli to Sri Ganganagar, panicked after the train had begun moving and tried to get down. He reportedly lost his footing and was on the verge of falling onto the railway tracks.
Noticing the imminent danger, pointsman Ganapati Naik acted without hesitation, risking his own safety to pull the passenger away from the tracks and prevent what could have been a fatal accident. His swift response ensured that the passenger escaped without serious harm.
The entire incident was captured on the station's CCTV cameras. Konkan Railway Public Relations Officer Sudha Krishnamurthy and other senior railway officials commended Ganapati Naik for his exemplary courage, alertness, and commitment to passenger safety.

In recognition of his outstanding act of bravery and dedication to railway safety, Konkan Railway Chairman and Managing Director Santosh Kumar Jha presented a cash award of ₹10,000 to Ganapati Naik. The award was conferred in appreciation of his exemplary courage, alertness and commitment to ensuring passenger safety, with railway authorities describing his action as a shining example of dedication to duty.
