Bhatkal: A timely rescue operation saved the life of a youth who got trapped in the sea at Murdeshwar and was on the verge of drowning.
The incident occurred on Friday when Prasad, a native of Belagavi, visited Murdeshwar. According to sources, the youth was moving alone along the beach and, unaware of the intensity of the sea waves, ventured into the Arabian Sea. Despite not knowing how to swim, he proceeded towards deeper waters.
Soon, a strong wave struck him, sweeping him away and leaving him struggling in the water. Sensing the danger, personnel present at the beach, including Ocean Adventure staff and a lifeguard, immediately rushed to his aid. Vigneshwar Harikanth entered the sea on a water bike, while lifeguard Rajesh Harikanth assisted in the rescue operation. The youth was successfully pulled out and brought safely to shore.
As he had swallowed a considerable amount of water, first aid was administered on the spot. Police were informed about the incident, and upon reaching the spot, they warned the youth and advised him to avoid such risky behaviour in the future before allowing him to leave.
