Bhatkal: For the last two days, Bhatkal TMC employees are not coming to office. In fact the office has remained closed since Thursday when a stone pelting incident took place. On Friday and Saturday, employees remained absent from work citing security reasons. They said protesters could pelt stones on the office and it may cause injuries. When contacted Bhatkal Assistant Commissioner M N Manjunath who denied any leave by TM staff, said, “The workers came to the office on Friday and cleaned the office. Some of them are concerned about security. But we have convinced them that there is police security in front of the office. On Saturday, staff have not come to office fearing that tension may prevail in the town following the death of Ramachandra Naik. From next working day onwards, they will return to their jobs. I have directed the environment engineer to ask the staff to return to work,” he said.
