Uttar Kannada district receives 775mm rain in two days

Bhatkal/Karwar: Heavy rain lashed Uttara Kannada district on Sunday, 11th June. The monsoon has already arrived in the district since two days and it is slowly picking up, bringing cheer on the faces of farming community.

In several places of the district, the agricultural activities have also started. The failure of the monsoon for the last two years had resulted in the crop loss in many parts of the district.

On Sunday, Bhatkal witnessed the highest rainfall of 242 mm followed by Kumta which recorded 152.2 mm rainfall. Haliyal witnessed lowest rainfall (3.8 mm).

The rainfall in other taluks on Sunday is: Ankola 89 mm, Honnavar 143 mm, Karwar 72.2 mm, Kumta 152.2 mm, Siddapur 53.6 mm, Joida 13.2 mm and Yellapur 3.4 mm. The total rainfall the district received stands at 775 mm.

The monsoon is strong in the coastal taluks and is yet to pick up on top of the ghat area. The district administration has made arrangements to tackle situations like flood and other emergencies. The monsoon will be normal this year as predicted by the meteorological department.
