Bhatkal: Veteran farmers' leader and Taluk Krishik Samaj president Sridhar S. Hebbar Hakodlu (74) passed away at a hospital in Manipal following an illness.

Hebbar, a state leader of the Bharatiya Kisan Sangh, had been actively involved in farmers' movements for decades. He played a key role in establishing the organisation's Bhatkal unit and spearheaded several agitations on issues affecting farmers, including electricity tariff hikes.

A respected leader of the Havyaka community, Hebbar was known for his guidance and commitment to farmers' welfare. He is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter.

Several prominent personalities, including Bhatkal MLA and former minister Mankal Vaidya and Uttara Kannada MP Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri, have condoled his demise.
