Mangaluru: World Bicycle Day was observed by Nehru Yuva Kendra, district administration, NSS, Mangalore University and Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), NCC 18 Karnataka and Mangalore Cycling Club on Friday.
A 13-km rally was held on the occasion and it was flagged off by Additional DC Krishnamurthy H.
The rally commenced from the DC’s office and passed through Mangaladevi-Jeppinamogeru-Thokkottu-Mastikatte-Rani Abbakka Circle in Ullal.
Speaking on the occasion, the ADC said that he was a cyclist and explained the benefits of cycling.
ZP deputy secretary Anand Kumar, NSS coordinator DR Ashwini Shetty, Jagadish K of Nehru Yuva Kendra and others were present. As many as 140 cyclists participated in it.
Speaking at the conclusion of the rally at Ullal CMC hall, Rayappa, commissioner of Ullal CMC, said that cycling helps in maintaining health.
Anil Shet, president of Mangalore Cycling Club, was felicitated for covering 1 lakh kilometres via cycling in the last seven years.
All women rally
Mangaluru Smart City Limited organised an all-women bicycle rally in the city.
The rally was held from the MCC building and passed through Lalbagh, Ballalbagh, PVS, Navabharath Circle-PVS-Lalbagh-Ladyhill-Mangala stadium.
