Bhatkal: The Bhatkal Muslim Youth Federation (BMYF) organised the second season of its badminton tournament at the Abu Faisal Badminton Academy in Bhatkal, with the two-day event concluding successfully with enthusiastic participation from players from different age groups across Uttara Kannada.
The tournament featured competitions in four categories — BMYF Bhatkal Players, 40+ Category, Under-15 Open and Open Category — providing players from Bhatkal and neighbouring areas an opportunity to compete and showcase their skills.
In the BMYF Bhatkal Players Category, Nuhail and Ali Irshad Siddiqua emerged winners, while Imran and Sadeed finished runners-up.
In the 40+ Category, Nagendra Naik and Avinash of Dandeli-Haliyal won the title, with R.K. Mesta and Shyam of Honnavar finishing runners-up.
In the Under-15 Open Category, Ali Siddiqua of Bhatkal and Hamadan of Mangaluru emerged winners. Junaid of Ankola and Dishank of Sirsi were the runners-up.
In the Open Category, Nikhil Shanbhag of Bhatkal and Adarsh Prabhu of Ankola secured the title, while Usaam Shabandri of Bhatkal and Amogh of Ankola finished runners-up.
Speaking at the concluding ceremony, chief guest Bilal Qamri of the social organisation Majlis Islah-wa-Tanzeem, Bhatkal, stressed the need to organise more sporting competitions to encourage youth to engage in healthy and constructive activities.
Qamri also called for greater opportunities for indoor games and other sporting activities, saying sports can play an important role in promoting discipline, teamwork, healthy competition and positive engagement among young people.
BMYF General Secretary Mubashshir Hulare, Convener Ishaq Ruknuddin, Anjuman College Bhatkal Physical Director Prof. Mohan Mesta, along with other organisers and sports enthusiasts, were present at the programme.
The tournament provided a platform for young players and other participants to compete in a healthy sporting environment and contributed to promoting sportsmanship, discipline and teamwork. The organisers thanked all the players, supporters, volunteers and patrons whose cooperation helped make the second season of the BMYF Badminton Tournament a success.
