Bhatkal: Bhatkal Muslim Youth Federation, an umbrella organization of various sports NGOs of Bhatkal, strongly condemned the behaviour of the Principal of Government P U College at Udupi, alleging it is his misbehaviour and untimely action that led to unnecessary hijab issue in the State.

The Federation on Wednesday protested outside Assistant Commissioner office against the ongoing Hijab-ban issue in the state and called for the justice soon be provided to the suffering students, and also urged the authorities should provide re-examination for the students who were denied entry for wearing Hijab.

The memorandum stated, "It is to bring to your notice that wearing of Hijab is our Constitutional Right as it is a religious duty which is mentioned in various places in Quran and hadits. There cannot be a compromise with Hijab in Islam and anyone who wants to practice this belief should be free to do so as provided by various articles of Constitution of India and the makers of which were very clear about it"

Further it stated, the act of the Principal is in violation of Art 19, Art 21 and Art 25 of Constitution of India and hence demanded    action against the Principal of the said college for not allowing the students to appear for practical exams and    to make appropriate arrangement for re-examination for those students at the earliest.

Safe evacuation of Indian students from Ukraine : The Federation also demanded the safe evacuation of Indian students stranded in war-ravaged Ukraine. It said the government was putting the lives of thousands of Indian students in danger by only giving self-reliant advice instead of helping them. The protest comes on a day when an Indian student from karnataka’s Haveri district Naveen Shekharappa was killed in the violence in Ukraine’s Kharkiv.

The memorandum was written to the  Prime Minister of India Mr. Narender Modi and Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, which was submitted through Assistant commissioner Mamata Devi.

Tahshildar Ashok Bhat, CPI Diwakar, BMYF President Moulaavi Aziziur Rahman Nadvi, Moulana Vasiullah DF, Qaiser Mohtisham, Ismail Imshad Muktesar and many others were present.
