Karwar: Contract workers of the Nuclear Power Corporation Limited (NPCL), Kaiga plant will get their special and travel till December end. It was decided at a board meeting held at Mumbai on Wednesday.
NPCL officials at Kaiga said the Board on Wednesday decided to continue all kinds of allowances without any conditions till December.
Thousands of contract workers boycotted their work and launched a protest against the NPCL’s decision to discontinue their 25 per cent special allowance and six per cent travel allowance. The decision came after a six day agitation by the contract workers in front of the NPCL plant in Kaiga near Karwar.
MLA Satish Sail, while addressing the agitators on Tuesday, had threatened to block a road leading to the Kaiga plant if the officials take a decision against the agitating contract workers in the meeting.
Chandrashekar Bandekar, agitators’ leader and Mallapur Gram Panchayat president, said: “The conditions of the Board has not yet revealed to the agitators. Once we get official statement, we will decide the further course of action.” The agitators will resume work on Thursday, sources said.
