Karwar: A thief, who was involved in house theft was sentenced to three years imprisonment and was imposed a fine of 9,000 rupees by the CJM court here.
Gold ornaments worth Rs. 4.92 lakh was stolen by the thief from a house belonging to M R Naik on Ashram road in Karwar on February 5, 2014. He had entered the house by breaking open the lock when the occupants were not in the house.
The police, who had registered a case, had used a dog squad for investigation. The dog had traced the way through which the thief had escaped on his bike. Also, CPI Sharangowda Patil had collected samples of the fingerprints found on the cupboard in the house. Based on these clues, the police had arrested Ashok Hanumanthappa Bandiwaddar. The bike used by the accused and the stolen gold were recovered. Judge Shivakumar B, who heard the case, sentenced the thief to jail.
