Bengaluru: CM Ibrahim, who is unhappy with Congress, has announced launching of "Alinga" movement aimed to bring Lingayats and Backward Class/Dalit communities together under one roof.
"This movement will create a new political environment in the state and will be flagged off from Kudalasangama in February," he told reporters on Sunday.
For quite some time, Ibrahim has been thinking about bringing together all prominent political leaders, including former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda and former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa and others under one political roof to usher in a new era of politics in Karnataka.
"In the coming days you will see Lingayat swamijis also participating in the Alinga movement," he said.
The plan to quit Congress party following BK Hari Prasad's appointment as the Opposition Leader in the state's upper house. Ibrahim alleged that the Congress has been consistently neglecting him.
According to Ibrahim, joining TMC, JDS and Samajwadi Party are the three options left with him and he would not delay in joining one of these parties.
Prior to Congress, Ibrahim was in JDS and was a central minister in former PM Deve Gowda's cabinet, but in 2018, he quit JDS and joined Congress along with Siddaramaiah.
Until recently, Ibrahim was expecting at least the post of Opposition Leader in Legislative Council after it fell vacant on the expiry of Congress MLC SR Patil's term in the house.
The Congress high command, however, overlooked Ibrahim and gave the post to Hari Prasad.
