Karwar:  General body meeting at city noted that the crores of bills released by Karnataka Urban water supply and Drainage Board (KUWSD) every year is not a source of revenue. Instead, CMC is facing severe loss.

“The Municipal Council has received Rs 14 lakh bill in June from KUWSD for water supply in the City. It is impossible to believe that there is huge water consumption in the monsoon season. Measurement meters must be in error and should be scrutinized", says Sandeep Thalekar, CMC Member.

Responding to questions, Municipal Commissioner S.Yogeshwar said that water is being supplied in three different regions of the city and in second region, only 238 houses were connected to water supply system. Hence, meters have been scrutinized and sent to higher officials for investigation.

“The illegally acquired water connections to 36 houses have been cut off and scrutiny is taking place to find out water leakages. The board is releasing Rs 2 crore every year for water supply and Municipal Council is getting only Rs 40 lakh revenue. It has to pay Rs 6 crore to Water Supply Board.

CMC Member Premanand Gunaga suggest Municipal Council to take up measures to prevent water wastage.”The letter had been written to head of water board in this regard. Soon Managing Director of water board will visit the City. The meeting will be accompanied by District Commissioner", Yogeshwar said.

Sandeep Talekar expressed displeasure on the mismanagement of street lights under municipal council premises. Though there are rules and regulations for contractors, they are not following it, he added.

“The order had been given to contractors to open two offices, to have two vehicles and also an inquiry helpline, but the contractors are not following orders", Yogeshwar clarified.
