Karwar: The City Municipal Council (CMC) has finally come up with a plan to install CCTV surveillance cameras in the selected 28 places in the City. The installation works would be launched soon. With this, the long standing demand of people of the city has fulfilled now.
Speaking to DH, CMC Commissioner Yogishwar said that the CMC will be spending Rs 25 lakh for this purpose. The tender process is in the final stage. Modern and high-resolution cameras will be installed to keep a hawk’s eye on the day to day activities in the major areas of the city.
The visuals captured by all the 28 surveillance cameras will be displayed through the particular web link. The selected senior officials can watch and inspect the footage using password. The links will be given to the CMC, Deputy Commissioner’s Office and Superintendent of Police’s office, he said.
He said, except some surveillance cameras installed in front of CMC, some government offices, houses and private complexes, so far, there were no cameras installed in any part of the city.
As the city is developing day by day, installation of cameras has become necessary.
Hence, the concerned department has planned for this, he said.
The city consists of the Seabird Naval Base, which is playing key role for the development of nation in global level. The Kaiga Nuclear Power Plant and National highway-66 are also near to the City. There are many ambitious projects of Karnataka Power Corporation in the district. Many people have demanded to install surveillance cameras in terms of safety measures at all such places, he added.
Pahare Vedike founder president Nagaraj Nayak said, the incidents of chain snatching, robbery and two wheeler lifting have become rampant in the city. Hence, proper measures should be taken to increase the security at such places, he added.
